Sax Music Fest Raises vital funds for Church Repairs
Sax Music Fest, the annual free music festival in Saxmundham, put on a Nat King Cole tribute concert which helped to raise £500 to go towards the vital repairs at the church of St John the Baptist in Saxmundham.
This donation, along with the recent confirmation of an award from the Heritage Lottery Fund, means repair work can now begin at the 900-year-old church in Saxmundham – one of only four churches in Suffolk listed in the Domesday survey.
Terry Barrow, organiser of Sax Music Fest, said: “We’re extremely happy to have been able to play our small part in securing the future of this historic community building. It was a fabulous venue for the Nat King Cole tribute concert and we hope to use it for more music and arts events in future. We’re hoping to build upon our successes to date to bring more arts and music events and opportunities to the community. Watch this space…”
Reverend Andy Wolton, added: “We’re very grateful to Sax Music Fest for their generous contribution to our repairs fund – and for bringing a different style of music to the church. We’re keen that the church be a community hub and events such as the Nat King Cole tribute night are a welcome addition to our calendar.”
